Hello!  I am not a baby anymore-I am 3 1/2 and full of myself.  I mean, who wouldn't be when you've got such great looks and brains.  I am the whole package and boy, do I know it.

I spend my days terrorizing-I mean entertaining-my daddy and mommy.  Daddy works from home and stays home with me and Mommy works and goes to college. I like my baby dolls and watching Sid the Science kid on TV.  I like going on roadtrips with Mommy.  There is a park in Valle Crucis that we went to and the Candy Factory in Lexington, North Carolina.  Sometimes we go to Charlotte to see my brother, Josh, or to Boone to see my sister, Rachel. My sister, Sarah, just got married in December, so we stayed in a hotel in Charlotte for that.  She moved with her husband to Columbia, SC, so we will  be going there too!

I have a cat named Enos/Garfield, depending on who you ask.  He is not really ours but he has adopted us.

I have a Fairy bedroom with a mini-princess bunk bed. (otherwise known as a daybed with a trundle bed.) I like watching movies in my room with the cat. my dolls, and my stuffed animals.  I got a real laptop from my aunt Kristina for Christmas and it is in my room on my own desk.

Anyway, I have to go now.  I will write again soon.  Sorry I have not written in so long-I have been very busy growing and playing and laughing and singing.  I have been to Cherokee and Asheville and stayed in log cabins.  I  love cabins, especially if they have a loft.  I have been camping and sledding and I even have a bike of my own with training wheels, that I have been riding.  I have learned all my letters and can recognize them on signs and I can count to at least 20.  I know how to spell my name and hop on one foot.  So, see, I have really been super busy. I love to tell my Mommy and Daddy made up stories and I can sing a bunch of songs and boy can I dance.  My mom and I love to watch UTube.  I love the song "Smile"  bu Uncle Kracker and" Hey I love You" by Michael Franti and the Spearheads.  I also like" I hope You Dance" by LeAnn Womack.

Well, that's it for now, my fingers are tired.  Please come back and read my next blog.  I an such an exciting kid-so don't miss a word!

Love, Anna

Hello.  I know, I fell of the face of the earth.  Not really, life happened.  Yep, a lot of life happened.

Anna is 3 1/2 and we live in Wilkesboro, NC.  I have been going to Gardner Webb University finishing my bachelor's degree and will graduate in August!  I plan on going to graduate school at App State if they will have me, to major in Higher Education, Developmental Studies.  I have been working over a year now at a group home for adults with developmental disabilities and I have been working at the local community college as a notetaker and as a teaching assistant (well, that ended last semester, but may happen again in the future if there are enough students.)

I finally started my non-profit-The H.E.L.P Center for Developmental Disabilities this past December and am in the processing of updating my website-developmental-disabilities.org-to reflect the mission of the organization.  I am recruiting both board members and charter members.  I am very excited.  We applied for a grant through Kindermusik.com/grants and are competing with 37 marvelous ideas for a prize of $1000.  You can vote for us by going to the kindermusik.com/grants site and hit the "all ideas" button.  Then scroll down til you find my idea-creating a resource guide for special needs families and click on the green circle that says VOTE.  Then scroll up and a voting box will appear.  Thanks.  You can vote up to ten times a day!

Mike is still doing his computer thing.  Anna is talking up a storm.  She loves being outside, looking at books, and going on road trips with her mommy.  Today we went to the Barnes and Noble in Winston Salem, because it is the closest one to us in Wilkesboro.  Hickory is just about as far, but we decided to have an adventure and go to Winston.

Anyway, that is a really quick update.  Can't wait til warmer weather, we got a boat this fall and look forward to getting it out on the water.  It is just a john boat, but it is the first boat we have ever owned.  Wilkesboro has a lot of water and we really want to spend some great family time enjoying the great outdoors around here.

We are trying to get our family site updated with photos and such.  I will be getting out another message from Anna soon and will be reworking the Mikaranna for Kids store.  Mikaranna for Kids will be a social enterprise to support the non-profit.  This means that 75% of the profits from Mikaranna for Kids will go directly to The H.E.L.P. Center.  Anyway, we are preparing for yet another winter storm and totally dreading it-I just heard on the news.

Until next time....stay warm and take care during this chilly winter.  If you are reading this from somewhere warm-if there is anywhere warm at this point-then I hope you sweat too much and get a terrible sunburn!  haha

Hello Again PDF Print E-mail

Hello again!

Summer is almost over! Time flies when you are having fun-really, I think it just flies whether you are having fun or not. Anna has had a fun summer-playing in her pool, doing bubbles, camping, and taking walks with mom around the neighborhood.

We joined the local YMCA and now Anna has some new friends to play with while mom works out (or sneaks away for a few quiet moments!)

My job at the Art program went ok for awhile, but my lady started getting sick and having some behavior issues. So, it’s back to finding another job. It was a very frustrating situation, but something else will come along. I applied with the school system, a non-profit that addresses environmental issues, and other places. I am feeling more and more led to work with Mike on our home based businesses, so I just want something to bring in some steady money without demanding a lot of my time and attention.

We strongly considered moving out west like we have always dreamed about since things did not seem to be working here and made some serious strides in that direction. It looks like now we are going to stay as Mike got some other website jobs and we got a lot of encouragement from folks to stick it out here. Rachel and Josh will both be graduated in a couple years, so it would be better to stay til they move on.

Sarah leaves in a couple weeks for Yale-I still can’t believe it! I hope to be able to go to Parent’s Weekend in October and sleep in the dorm. Keep your fingers crossed that it works out…

I'm going to start counseling again as I have been struggling with depression after the crazy year, along with the baby blues and the life change of having a child going to college. It seems like it is all hitting me now. So please pray that I can find the right person to process all that mess so I can move on to a happier place.

Mike and I are still trying to figure out the whole “work at home” thing. Needless to say, having a toddler in the house does not lend itself to long periods of peaceful, uninterrupted work time. We try to stay out of the way, and he does have the local coffee house to use as his “office”, but it is still a challenge. We got a lead on a bigger place that will come available in December. We hope to look at it soon to see if that would be a more functional space for us.

Take care and thanks for tuning in to Mikaranna.com.

Love and Kisses from Anna.

Karen
